Resurrection of Jesus Chris
Resurrection of Jesus Christ
The Gospel message is Jesus Christ died, was buried and rose again. God gave His Son so believers accept His pardon and receive a relationship with God. Jesus Christ ministers, reveals His plan to the disciples and teaches the resurrection. He is the first to rise from death to eternal life. The apostles begin the Church Age with the Gospel and Holy Spirit. We proclaim the good news to the end. As He has risen, we too will rise. Come Lord Jesus!

Jesus Christ's Ministry

The Gospel plan is Jesus Christ's ministry: fulfill the Law, do His Father's will, redeem and judge, train disciples and build the Church (Philippians 2:6-8).

l Fulfill the Law and the Prophets

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill (Matthew 5:17).

l Do the Will of God the Father

I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me... that of all which he has given me I should lose nothing … That every one which sees the Son, and believes on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day (John 6:38-39, 40).

l Redeem the Lost

For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost (Luke 19:10).

l Judge the World

The
Father judges no man, but has committed all judgment to the Son: That all men should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that hears my word, and believes on him that sent me, has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death to life (John 5:22-23, 24)

l Establish the Kingdom

Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. Pilate said unto him, Are you a king then? Jesus answered, You say that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice (John 18:36-37).

l Teach the Disciples

When he had called his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease (Matthew 10:1).

l Build His Church

He said to them, But whom say you that I am? Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. I say unto you, That you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it (Matthew 16:15-16, 18).

Jesus Christ Reveals His Death, Burial and Resurrection

God told Moses to set aside seven appointed times or holy days. Passover, Unleavened Bread and Firstfruits celebrate God's deliverance of the children of Israel from slavery in Egypt. The spring holy days were fulfilled by the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

l Feeding of the Five Thousand (Matthew 16:21-23, Mark 8:31-32, Luke 9:21-22)

After a great miracle, people think Jesus Christ is the deliver from Roman oppression. The disciples want to rule with Him in the Kingdom. However, the problem with the world is not Romans but sin. He tells His disciples the plan to be a suffering servant to redeem the world.

From that time Jesus began to show to his disciples, how he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders [Sanhedrin], chief priests [Sadducees] and scribes [Pharisees], and be killed, and raised again the third day (Matthew 16:21).

l After the Transfiguration (Matthew 17:22-23, Mark 9:30-32, Luke 9:43-45)

Peter, James and John saw Jesus Christ's glory. The disciples are confused about His Kingdom but they felt despair and were afraid to ask. They know death but not resurrection.

While they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men: And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry (Matthew 17:22-23).

l Before the Final Passover (Matthew 20:17-19, Mark 10:32-34, Luke 18:31-34)

On the road to Jerusalem for Passover, Jesus Christ tells of the week ahead. He is betrayed, convicted by the Jewish Sanhedrin, tortured and crucified by the Romans and risen back to life. Smite the shepherd and the sheep scatter (Zechariah 13:7).

Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them,  Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed to the chief priests and scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, scourge, and crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again (Matthew 20:17-19).

·        Healing of the Lame Man During a Feast

After healing the man at the pool of Bethesda, Jewish leaders learn Jesus Christ heals a man on the Sabbath and claims to be the Son of God. Jesus says the dead will hear His voice and be resurrected to life or death.

Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation (John 5:28-29)

·        Nineveh Judges the Nations

The Pharisees ask for a sign. Jesus Christ reminds them Jonah was three days in the great fish so the Son of Man will be three days in the earth. Since Nineveh repented, they rise and judge this generation. Jesus Christ is greater than Jonah.

For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here. (Matthew 12:40-41).

·        Parable of the Wheat and Tares

The Son of Man sows good seed but the devil sows weeds. At the end, weeds are burned then wheat is harvested. The redeemed shine like the sun (Daniel 12:2-3).

As the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. (Matthew 13:40, 43).

·        Sadducees Question on Heaven

In 63 BC, Roman leader Pompey intervenes in the Hasmonean Civil War. He conquers Judea, takes power from Pharisees and gives Sadducees control over the High Priests, temple worship and majority in the Sanhedrin. They only accept the five books of Moses as Scripture so they do not believe in the resurrection. Jesus Christ answers God is God of the living.

For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, I am the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine (Matthew 22:30-32).

·        Resurrection of Lazarus

Jesus Christ did many miracles but raising Lasarus who was dead on the fourth day was His greatest miracle. "I am the resurrect and the life." As God, He has the power over life and death. Soon, Jesus Christ will sacrifice his life for humanity. Then He has the power over temporal and eternal life.

Then said Jesus unto them [disciples] plainly, Lazarus is dead. And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent you may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him. Jesus said unto her [Martha], I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Believe you this? (John 11:14-15, 25-26).

Three Crosses
Death, Burial and Resurrection of Jesus Christ

Who killed Jesus? Jewish religious leaders are self-righteous, intent on keeping power. Jesus Christ's message was undermining their authority. Sadducees and Pharisees agree He broke Sabbath rules and commits blasphemy. They tell the Romans He claims to be king, implying a traitor planning a revolt. Pontius Pilate, Governor of Judea, was distant with Rome. Tiberius requires stable regions that collect taxes. Pilate wants to release the innocent man but Jewish leaders make that impossible (Matthew 27:17-18, 24). However, Jesus Christ willingly gives His life to redeem the world (John 10:17-18).

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost (John 19:30).

At the moment of death, there was an earthquake so the veil of the temple was torn from top to bottom. Through His sacrifice, we can boldly enter the throne of God (Hebrews 10:19-20). Graves were open and later when He rose, many Saints resurrect back to life (Matthew 27:51-52). It is not clear how many and if they resurrect to temporary or eternal life. This is part of Firstfruits but most Old Testament Saints resurrect after the Tribulation (Revelation 20:4).

Since the first day of Unleavened Bread is a High Sabbath starting quickly that evening, religious leaders asked Pilate to take the bodies down. Soldiers brake the legs of the two but do not break the legs of Jesus Christ but pierce His side (John 19:31, 33-34). Joseph of Arimathaea and Nicodemus bury the body in a new sepulcher (John 19:38-39, 40).

The resurrection occurs during the evening before sunrise on the first day of the week (Sunday). Mary Magdalene sees the stone rolled away and sepulcher empty. She runs and tells the disciples (John 20:1-2). Peter and John run to the tomb. John stops at the door but Peter goes inside. They both see the grave clothes. John sees and believes (John 20:5-8).

Mary Magdalene stays at the tomb weeping. Again looking in the tomb, she sees two angels sitting inside (John 20:12-13). They ask why she is crying. She says someone stole His body. Then Jesus appears and asks her again. She does not recognize Him but thinks He is the gardener. Then Jesus says "Mary". She knows His voice and says "Master". He tells her He needs to go to His father. Mary goes and tells the disciples that she has seen Jesus but they do not believe.

Later that evening, ten disciples were together, still in fear of the Jews. Then Jesus appears but they thought He was a ghost. He shows them His hands and side, eats food and once again reminds them of Scripture (Luke 24:36-37, 39-43, 44-45). As a prelude to Pentecost, He breaths the Holy Spirit on them (John 20:21-22).

Resurrection to Ascension
(40 Days)

Thomas was not the only doubter. Jesus Christ restores the disciples' faith and helps them believe. Once fully restored with the Gospel and power of the Holy Spirit, they are ready to build the Church.

Peter rejected Jesus Christ three times but He takes the time to restore their relationship. Peter is the leader of the disciples. He preaches the sermon on Pentecost with a great revival.

The disciple are still confused about His Kingdom to Israel but that begins at the Second Coming. Instead, He gave the plan to build the Church. Start with Jerusalem, Judea, Samara until the farthest part of the earth (Acts 1:6-7, 8-9). Jesus Christ resurrects at night in hiding, so the Rapture will be hidden from view (John 20:1). He ascends during the day, so the Second Coming will be seen by all (Acts 1:10-11).

Resurrection of Jesus Christ from Peter and Paul

The key theme of the New Testament is Jesus Christ's death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Fifty days after the Resurrection is Pentecost, the anniversary of the Law. With the Gospel and the Holy Spirit, Peter preaches the sermon to the whole nation gathered for the Feast of Weeks.

You men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as you yourselves also know: Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should beholden of it (Acts 2:22-23, 24).

Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God has made the same Jesus, whom you have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:36-37, 38).

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy has begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fades not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time (1 Peter 1:3-5).

For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him (1 Peter 3:18, 22).

1 Corinthians 15 is Paul's detailed description reveling the mystery of the resurrection.

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how Christ died for our sins; And he was buried, and he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And he was seen of Peter, then of the twelve:
After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once. He was seen of James; then all the apostles. Last of all he was seen of me, as of one born out of due time (1 Corinthians 15:3-5, 6-8).

Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?
But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive (1 Corinthians 15:12, 20-22).

Then comes the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he has put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death (1 Corinthians 15:24-26).

The resurrection of the dead is is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit (1 Corinthians 15:42-44, 45).

Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither does corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed (1 Corinthians 15:50-52).
