First Forty Days on Mt. Sinai - 6th of Sivan to 17th of Tammuz

Fifty days after Passover and the miraculous exodus from Egypt, Moses ascends up Mt. Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments and instructions for Israel's civil and religious life. The "First Trump" is the Feast of Weeks/Pentecost. When God gave Moses the Law on Mt. Sinai, the shofar sounded long. Israel has a special relationship with God.

Now therefore, if you will obey my voice and keep my covenant, then you shall be a peculiar treasure unto Me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And you shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. On the third day in the morning, there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled (Exodus 19:5-6, 16).

Moses was on Mt. Sinai forty day. When he came down on the 17th of Tammuz, he saw the people worshiping a golden calf. He became angry and broke the first tables. The children of Israel (Jacob) rebelled against God and rejected God's law.

When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us. As soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount. (Exodus 32:1, 19).

Second Forty Days on Mt. Sinai - 1st of Elul to 10th of Tishri

The high holy days of Trumpets, Atonement and Tabernacles occur in the fall. Before the last three feasts, there is a time of Teshuvah. After forty days, Moses cut two tablets and returned to God a second forty days. Teshuvah means to repent and return. During the Hebrew month of Elul at the end of morning prayers, the shofar is blown. While Moses was on Mt. Sinai, the people wake up, review their lives and prepare for the high holy days. They repent of their sins to God and others and change their ways.

The Lord said unto Moses, Hew two tables of stone like the first: and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables, which you broke. And he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments (Exodus 34:1, 28).

On the last ten days of Teshuvah during the Feast of Trumpets and Days of Awe, this spiritual focus intensifies. On Trumpets, the shofar blows a hundred times to wake the people and call them back to God. Paul used a Hebrew figure of speech "Last Trump" to refer to the Feast of Trumpets. The hundredth and last blast of the shofar is called Tekiah Gedolah.

In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump [Tekiah Gedolah]: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed (1 Corinthians 15:52).

On the Day of Atonement, Moses descended from Mt. Sinai. Israel sinned because of the golden calf but God gave Israel a second chance to repent of their sins and return back to God. During the time of the tabernacle and temple, the High Priest sacrificed a lamb, bull and two goats for individual and national sin. This is the only day the priest went into the Holy Place and met God. Jesus explains the Shofar Hagadol or "Great Trumpet" sounds after the Great Tribulation. At the Second Coming, the remnant of Israel sees Jesus face to face and accepts their Messiah.

He shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet [Shofar Hagadol], and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other (Matthew 24:31).

The prophecy of Teshuvah corresponds to the end of the Laodicean period of the Church Age. This is a time of alarm and awakening. God equipped the Church for work during the End Times. Christians must be ready to meet God, reap the harvest and watch for the Lord's return. The Feast of Trumpets is fulfilled at the Rapture as God prepares the Church for heaven and the world for the Tribulation. Then God gives Israel and the world a second chance to repent and return before the Second Coming. The Feast of Tabernacles begins the millennial reign of Jesus Christ.

I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn (Zechariah 12:10).

The year 2020 has be a year like no other. The Covenant, coronavirus, political and economic upheaval and spiritual warfare have turned life upside down. Israel is ready to annex the Jordan Valley and God is holding back China from starting the World War III. It is possible that the Tribulation could start by the end of September. Hundreds of millions of Christians disappear as God grabs the Church up just in time before pouring down judgment. God's perfect plan is on God's time on God's holy days. Take the forty days of Teshuvah to watch and pray.

You, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. You are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness (1 Thessalonians 5:4-5).
