If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:13-14).

Through the World Wars, Iraq Wars and End Wars, the Bible describes in many dramatic details the great rise and even greater fall of the United States and rise of the next world superpower.

Knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light (Romans 13:11-12).

On July 4th, we remember the birth of the United States. In the war for Independence, the eagle was torn from the lion. While the day is a great celebration with parades, picnics and fireworks, we also learn the end of the story. July 4, 1776 on the Jewish calendar is the 17th of Tammuz. On that day, Moses descended from Mt. Sinai, broke the tablets inscribed with the Ten Commandments because the people abandoned God and worshipped the golden calf. Years later on the same day,  the Babylonians and Romans start to breach the walls of Jerusalem before Judah falls. Tammuz and the fall of Judah tell us that once America rejects God, He  judges the nation through war which causes our fall.

Our actions result in global consequences. History tells us all superpowers rise and fall. The United States is missing as a leader during the Tribulation. Since the Cold War ended in 1991, we have seen a sharp decline of the United States. Nature abhors a vacuum. China, the European Union, India, Islam and Russia exploit our weaknesses and plot to replace us as king of the hill.

America, for some years, has been broke and getting in more financial trouble all the time with an incredible, mind-boggling federal deficit. A financial judgment day is going to come to the United States before the end of this century unless the budget can be balanced and we start paying back what we owe.
--Billy Graham, Approaching Hoofbeats

By the mercy of God, America's judgment day is delayed but certain. Our financial, political and moral problems reveal how difficult it is to keep superpower status. By the 2020's, our economic depression will make us choose between entitlements, discretionary spending, interest on the debt or the next world war. It will be a disaster one hundred times greater than Greece with no one to bail us out.
We have been the recipient of the choicest bounties of Heaven. We have been preserved, these many years, in peace and prosperity. We have grown in number, wealth and power, as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God.
--US President Abraham Lincoln, Proclamation Appointing a National Fast Day, 1863

Just changing political parties, economic policy or society's morality will not fix the problem. America's economic crisis is a direct result of our rejection of God. That results in broken families, powerless churches, moral weakness and judgment from God. Only faithful Christians working together in strong churches have the Holy Spirit's power to change communities and our nation.
