2014-2016 Solar and Lunar Eclipses

There shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. (Luke 21:25-26).

The year 2014 promises to be another big year for signs of the end of our age. This is the one hundredth anniversary of World War I. There is also a rare cluster of twelve eclipses that occur on Jewish holy days in 2014-2016. When we understand the last one hundred years, God unseals the next twenty.

120 Years before the End of the Age

While tradition says almost all prophecies of Revelation 4-19 happens during the seven years of Tribulation, many prophecies of Revelation 4-9 are fulfilled during the Laodicean period of the Church Age. Laodicea is the seventh church of Revelation 2-3 that corresponds to the seventh and last period of the Church Age. As Noah had 120 years before the flood so we have 120 years before the Tribulation. On August 1, 1914 or the 9th of Av (Kadesh Barnea), World War I started when Germany declared war on Russia. The World Wars and Iraq Wars are the fulfillment of Scripture. We have been in the Laodicean period or the end of the End Times for at least one hundred years.

The Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years (Genesis 6:7).

Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished [Flood]: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men [Tribulation] (2 Peter 3:6-7).

Eclipses of the Sun and Moon

Eclipses are a strange astronomical phenomenon. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon is directly between the Sun and the Earth. The Sun turns into darkness. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth is directly between the Sun and the Moon. During part of a total eclipse, the Moon becomes red and is called a "Blood Moon". Because the orbital plane of the Moon is different from the Earth, eclipses happen less than twenty percent of the time. Throughout history, eclipses were a startling site to see.

In 2014-2016, there is a series of twelve lunar and solar eclipses on Jewish holy days. The Hebrew lunisolar calendar keeps time according to the lunar and solar cycles. Every solar eclipse occurs on the last day of the month or the first day of the new month (Rosh Chodesh). The 1st of Nisan is the beginning of the religious year and the 1st of Tishri (Rosh Hashanah) is the beginning of the civil year. Passover, Tabernacles and the Fast of Esther or Purim occur on a full moon. The 1st of Elul through the 10th of Tishri is Teshuvah when Moses returned to Mt. Sinai a second forty days. Jesus Christ and the prophets told us to watch for signs in sky.

In those days will I pour out my spirit. And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness [solar eclipse], and the moon into blood [lunar eclipse], before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come (Joel 2:29-31).
